Since the start of this academic year Holly Lodge in partnership with The Albion Foundation have run a KICKS football session on Wednesday evenings after school.

As part of the Kicks program students from Holly Lodge have represented the school at tournaments facilitated by and held at the Hawthorns Football Stadium. This week, 16 boys, 8 from Key Stage 3, and 8 from Key Stage 4 represented Holly Lodge at the annual Kicks football tournament, 'Live the Kicks dream'. The Key Stage 3 boys were unfortunately defeated in the semi-finals on penalties, by the eventual winners of the tournament. However, the Key Stage 4 boys, faced with some tough opposition, some of whom were 3 years older, went on to win the tournament involving some very tense semi-final and final penalty shootouts. As a result of last night’s victory the Key Stage 4 will be representing WBA at the Kicks final tournament in London this July.

George Owusu received the ‘Player of the tournament’ Award, for his outstanding display in goal, saving 4 penalties in the lead up to, and including the final.

Sgt Brian Steatham, Smethwick Town Neighbourhood Team, who was involved in refereeing at the tournament said, “It was a fantastic tournament and the behaviour of the students was excellent. We help support the Kicks project in Smethwick which is part of our community engagement to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour”
