Selina Ram

Governor Profile: Fiona Whitehouse

I have been a non-teaching governor since 2011. For the last 15 years I have been employed in Holly Lodge as a Learning Mentor, working in both key stage 3 and 4 with pupils, to help them improve their emotional wellbeing/confidence and address any behaviour issues that are affecting their learning.

I believe strongly that pupils who are shown understanding and support can succeed and reach their potential. I am a parent of a special needs son and so I understand the importance of inclusion. I also have a daughter who is in her final year at university, so I value the need for pupils to have access to the best education they can.

Within my role in school I have had opportunity for the last four years to work with able pupils and have arranged visits to universities to encourage them to aim higher. I have also helped to develop training for peer mentors to support year 7 and also last year introduced peer mentor reading scheme again with year 7, which has been very successful.

Before being employed in education, I have been a volunteer mentor working for various agencies within Sandwell/Birmingham. I have a background in retail and also have been a Legal Executive

During my time at Holly Lodge I have seen many changes. I am committed to seeing this school continue to grow and develop and for it to be recognised for the good work it does.
