Information Advice and Guidance/Careers
At Holly Lodge we recognise the importance of Information Advice and Guidance and therefore have always ensured it is delivered to a high standard. IAG is about making sure you have the right tools to help you make informed choices about your future learning and career pathways.
We begin to provide pupils with careers information and guidance from as early as year 7 right through to year 13. You will not only get the benefit of developing skills that will allow you to progress personally and professionally through teaching and learning from the fantastic staff at Holly Lodge, but also gain impartial advice from connexions staff as well as other external agencies.
We have many tools available for you to use at your own leisure to gain the knowledge you need to make the all important choices from your options at year 9 to courses you will be best suited to post 16. They include a great Careers Resource Centre located in the fantastic new library; this has information on the latest changes that affect you directly, as well as the latest prospectuses from both colleges and universities. The CRC is also where you will find careers personal advisors at hand to answer any questions you have on making choices on your future, with ‘drop in’ sessions available to year 9 and year 11.
Year 11’s are once again going out into the world of work for their ‘Work Experience’ week in early September. From 7th until 11th September, the current year 10 students, who will then be in year 11, will spend a week in a working environment. Placements vary from restaurants to school nurseries, from dog kennels to the local Asda!
The students worked with Miss Culloty, the new Work Experience co-ordinator, during the recent SIDS day. They took part in various activities to help them understand what will be expected of them during work experience week.
We aim to introduce you to our school, outline some of the many opportunities it offers and to demonstrate our aim to provide a quality education for every child.
