Owl Hunt 2016
The level 1 qualification in Creative Craft provides students with the introduction to art and design and enables them to develop their technical skills and creativity. Students are expected to complete three units. Unit 3 involves pupils creating, presenting and reviewing final art and design items. Students are expected to plan and prepare to create their final art and design item(s) and present the final item(s) at an exhibition. With this in mind and The Big Hoot capturing the imagination of everyone in Birmingham and beyond in the summer of 2015, it was decided that before the Big Hoot owls went under the hammer on 15 October 2015 that the year 11 craft group would go on the owl trail. The craft group took to the streets with their Big Hoot Trail maps to explore the colourful invasion of individually designed owls and extraordinary creativity produced by many of Birmingham’s artistic community. Following the success of this owl trail, pupils decided to create their own owls to be displayed at an owl exhibition in school which would then be accredited as their final art and design item for unit 3.
