Smethwick Foodbank
A group of Year 12 students have volunteered to be Food Bank Representatives for the local Smethwick Food Bank. Having visited the Holy Trinity Church where this operates and meeting with their staff, they are busy advertising the work of the Food Bank around school and collecting required items such as toiletries and breakfast cereals from Year 7 Forms. Regeneration of West Smethwick Park
Sandwell Council has secured Heritage Lottery Funding towards the £5.1m restoration of West Smethwick Park, subject to a successful Round 2 funding bid. The project involves restoration of the Park’s historic features, new recreational facilities and nature conservation improvements and the building of a major new community pavilion.Student council members recently visited West Smethwick Park in order to assist in the upkeep of the facility. facebook.com
Beat the Street
A large number of our students took part in the annual Beat the Street Challenge which runs every Spring. It is a free, fun game for the communities of Sandwell to see how far you can walk, cycle, run and move any which way you can! People score points and win prizes by walking, cycling or running from point to point and tapping a registered and activated Beat the Street RFID (Radio Frequency ID) card or fob on sensors (Beat Boxes) which are placed on lamp posts across the dedicated routes where the game is being played. Our students racked up lots of points between them whilst getting fitter along the way.
Big Spring Clean
A group of Holly Lodge students recently took part in Sandwell’s ‘Big Spring Clean’. This involved litter picking in the local community in order to make the area a cleaner and safer place to live.
